Just watched episode 2 "Instincts". Awesome.
Am I the only one who loves it when Echo gets to punch people? Ballard wrestling with her on the stairs, in the elevator, in the chair was awesome and then she punched Topher! Loved Topher's "Did you offer her a treatment?" and Ballard's "No, what a great idea ::)"
They did Echo's panic really well, but I'm wondering why they didn't repeat the handler-imprinting thing since it obviously didn't relax her. Loved Ballard's making-it-up technobabble about what's wrong with her (the whole maternal instinct being awesome thing).
And absolutely loved the "Good chat" moment between Topher and Ballard!
EDIT: Oh, forgot to talk about the politican guy!
Anyone else get the feeling his blonde wife was a doll? Maybe it's just Dollhouse paranoia (everyone around you is a doll) and I kind of feel it won't be because a) he's known her for ages and b) they already used that surprise on us with Ballard and Mellie. But Rossum has to be watching him somehow... Wonder who gave him the files, I don't think it'd be Ballard.
Cat - YES! I immediately thought the same thing about the politician's wife. There's something detached and decidedly 'Mellie' about her :P but in thinking about it again (or perhaps over thinking the whole episode :P) I wondered if they were wanting us to believe that to hide who it really could be. As for who gave him the info - well where's Whisky and Boyd?
Speaking of Mellie, I loved the Madeline appearance - squee/cheer! LOL @ Ballard's face when she said she remembered him.
Echo's story this week was played out very well. It was a creepy sign of what's to come I suppose that Topher's figured out how to imprint on a genetic level (that's what it was, right?). I loved that he didn't seem to have thought it through (removing the imprint that is) - that's so very...human. Usually in shows they'll have the genius always have the answer (on the spot, I mean).
Just generally though, I'm slightly underwhelmed by this season [act]winces[/act] I think because I've been looking forward to it so much. I just remember last year that the first few episodes invoked the same feeling - and that they were setting up for the main storyline - with several missions Echo had to go on so we'd learn stuff about the dolls and the dollhouse. There's a lack of other dolls this year though, to break up the missions and I'm not as convinced by the politician wanting to bring down the dollhouse as I was about Ballard's wanting to do the same last year. What's the politician's motive?
Anyway - can't wait for more and for the proper season arc to reveal itself!
I'm liking the episiodes, but I want them to go longer. Maybe that's because Mum and I watched half a season of BSG in two nights last week so now I'm used to getting the answers to things straight away :P
I was excited when Madeline came in, but on twitter everyone was saying how different she was to Mellie, so I was expected Queen [Beep] and she really wasn't. I too loved the "I remember you" bit, you could just see Ballard going "Oh God, and now I have to explain sleeping with you..."
It's not really a genetic level (we did lactation triggers in Bio last semester :P ), it's a glandular level. Well, I mean, cells reactions are governed by their genetics, but anyway, the point is its all triggered by hormones. They all have positive (reinforcing) and negative (subtracting) feedback systems too, so I don't think it'd actually be that hard to trigger lactation. Probably harder to make the body release the hormone in the first place on its own, instead of dosing your body with the hormones released in childbirth like you do with the pill (but different hormones, obviously). Anyway...
I agree about not caring about the politician guy as much as I cared about Ballard. BVut I guess they're building to it...

I've finished season one and can't wait for season two. Hope to start on those tomorrow. Yay!
Season 2 starts in the UK on 20th October! Woot!
Alright, who's seen episode 3 "Belle Chose"? I love some of the one liners in this one!
Some favourite lines:
"I won't even do this with my wife."
"A serial killer?! Thank God."
"An empty headed robot wandering around the streets of Holywood? He'll be fine."
And god Victor dancing when he thought he was Kikki was hilarious! And him hugging Paul, and then Adelle's "I see you made a new friend."
Not very happy about Echo having a serial killer as one of her potential personalities... That last line was creeepy!

Oh I totally agree Cat! Not impressed at all with Echo's 'latest' imprint. Most creepy.
I was cringing in my seat at the idea that Topher was attempting a remote wipe:
'Ee! It's the beginning on the end!' and the switch with Kiki and Terry my goodness!
I was also worried if that guy's personality got transferred to all the active dolls.
Min - I'm totally with you about Dollhouse tihs season; after watching the 3rd ep I was thinking:
Man, I love this show... but atm, it's just not doing it for me. It has so much potential and it's just not seeping through yet. Which, is not a good thing since it is already so much on the rocks.
I'm wondering if it will be a bit like season 1 where it didn't start to get good til episode 6 - but really, that's very VERY risky...
But with people turning up such as: Felicia Day (they said that correct?) and Summer Glau (wiki) I'm not giving up on it yet ;)
Felicia Day was in Epitah One, the thriteenth episode of season one that wasn't aired in the US (but was in other places like Aus). Haven't heard anything about her coming back this season, but I could be wrong. The other one's a definite, can't wait!!
I like the current episodes, but I agree that there feels like there's something they're just not quite capitalising on. Although I am interested and I like that they're pushing some of the boundaries. But they still have some great lines!
I was doing the whole "No, you're not really going to try to remote wipe, oh god..." I thought they'd wipe everyone and something'd go bad, but I prefered what they did!
How awesome is Enver (Victor)? He's such a great actor in this episode. If you think about it, he basically had to be people who we'd already seen played by other actors. But it's not that they're different people pretending to be the same person or anything, they are actually the same person in different bodies. So difficult to pull off.

Victor is my hero! I agree with all of the above about him! Particularly -
Victor-as Kiki XD and LOL @ Paul rescuing him.
I thought this episode was so much better than the earlier ones. Ugh, when the episode first started, I was sure that nutjob would hire a Doll to replace the 'aunt' he'd killed.
I loved when Topher mentioned he had a moral problem in waking the serial killer. I mean - obviously. But consider what he does as a day job...I dunno, just thought it was interesting :P
Also - who bets that Boyd goes back to being Echo's handler, and Ballard becomes head of Security?
The interactions in the Dollhouse were brilliant - I had the same reactions as you guys with the mention of the remote wipe. "Beginning of the end!" and all that.
Though, what actually happened is bugging me a little - I thought oh noes - either he's going to remote wipe everyone, or he'll transfer the serial killer to everyone? But instead Echo and Victor swap. If Victor had been wiped, as intended, and the imprint had gone to Echo - I could understand that. We could reason that Echo is like a magnet that just attracts more and more imprints.
But that she swapped with Victor? Why did Kiki's mind go into him (apart from for laughs!)? Has he got whatever special skillz Echo has? Did any other actives become effected, or swap like that? Why just those two?
I just wish it had been explained a little more. Maybe we'll see similar occurrences again in the future that will explain it :)
Am very happy Mr Politician didn't make an appearance this episode. Am not so keen on that story arc.
Where the deuce is Whisky, though? :(
I think Amy Acker (whiskey) is off doing something else, which is why she was so much in the first episode. Or at least that's the vibe I got from something I read...
I agree, I think it would have been better explained why they swapped if only Echo and Victor had been out at the time. Then I could understand it, but as it was it was a bit random that no one else was affected. Maybe it's because she's been remote wiped before? That doesn't even sound like it'd work with sci-fi logic :P
I can't decide whether I'd like Ballard to be head of security or not... I think not, I want more Ballard screen time than heads of security usually get :P
Yeah, I thought the nutjob was going to find Echo when she was on some other assignment and kidnap her, her uncle hiring them to wake her up was a bit of a twist! Crazy family though, you do not go around paying off victims of your psychopathic kid who likes to make human dolls out of people he knows!

Argh I agree with that creepy last line!!
It's like that guy will never ever die. I'm a little scared actually now, because if Echo keeps glitching and all these personalities remain in her... then doesn't that mean that serial killer dude is always gonna be around, and he seems pretty strong... arghh... fantastic series!
Ditto about cringing about the remote wipe... made me want to rewatch season one though - whatever happened with Alpha? He's still on the loose isn't he? I can't remember!! So aren't they afraid he'll be back... argh I really gotta rewatch season 1
And I'm liking Ballard more and more ;)
Anyone know when season 1 DVD comes out over in Australia?
I'm avoiding the spoilers in case they're about season 2. It starts in the UK on 20th Oct at 10pm on the Sci-Fi channel. Can't wait!

Haha smart move Dark One :P They are all spoilers indeed. But woot - only one more day and then you can join in the fun!
Ah and Jossie I TOTALLY agree - I can't wait for it to come on DVD - I smell a marathon coming around :P
Has the season 1 DVD even been released in Aus yet?
My friend called me last night to tell me the horribly sad news! DOLLHOUSE IS BEING AXED! Thank goodness though that Fox is committed to the 13 episodes.
We all had such high hopes, and now I'm devastated! :(
They can't cancel it. I bet you're right Cat, and it's just people worrying about this 4-week hiatus.
What is the reason for this, though? No Dollhouse for the entirety of November?! What thaaaa?!
This weeks episode was THE best, by far, of the entire season. Loved it.
This episode didn't miss a beat. The dialog was perfect, the reactions and ramifications perfect as well. What an epic, wonderful episode.
[act]squee[/act] much at Sierra/Victor. That's just too cute. Victor is adorable, like a lost puppy, and the two of them are just too cute together.
Now - answer me this...does Topher have a 'thing' for Sierra?? In the bit where she asks if they're ever allowed beer, and he says airily 'only on special occasions' (eluding to his birthday)...is there something more here? Or is it just a sense of responsibility/caring seeping through, since he knows that she didn't enter the Dollhouse in exactly voluntary circumstances, like all the others?
Adele was brilliant in this episode. And Boyd. All of them, actually. Echo's sideline plot was so interesting, that she forced the whole Sierra situation to happen essentially, in order to try save her.
I was horrified with what they had to do, then cheering when Priya 'woke up', because Topher had done the right thing, sort of (though I thought he'd give her some ninja skillz or something to defend herself with properly!)
Also - does anyone get the foreboding sense at the end of the episode that Topher's going to start wiping himself? At least of stuff like the occurrences of this episode? And it'll just get out of control - why in Epitaph One that he can't seem to remember that he developed the phone technology?
Anyway what an amazing episode - I'm somewhat devastated to hear now that it's not being shown for another 4 weeks because I want to know more! It's scheduling decisions like these, when the show is getting into it's stride, that causes drop in ratings/cancellations.
I wish networks would learn to look at online viewings and DVD sales as well as TV ratings. How can they keep cancelling great shows just because not everybody watches the intital viewing on TV? I hope they're not cancelling Dollhouse, and that everybody is just panicking about the no November airings.
I believe Fox is looking at the legal online viewings, which is why it hasn't been cancelled yet (in America they can legally watch it through fox's website, iTunes and hulu). All the stars etc keep telling people to watch those as well so that it gets bigger viewings. They don't look at the illegal downloads, so there's nothing anyone not in the US can do to help the ratings, unfortunately.

What I don't get is that this could be an opportunity for Fox to extend their market to the international. I don't know anything about licensing laws but surely Fox are big enough to start something new; i.e., make those iTunes watchings available worldwide. I know I'd watch it legally in a snap if it were available on iTunes and I knew that by viewing it there I was supporting the renewal of the show (at the same time it was available to the US, that is). They could potentially get an international scope.
And of course, this not happening could be the fault of regional licensing laws and such, but honestly, can't times change? With the internet making everything accessible it makes the world a much smaller place and that will eventually make international perspectives important.
[act]wants more Dollhouse so is somewhat sulking[/act]
The other side I guess is that they just might not care about anyone outside their region :-/
I've finally got round to watching the first two episodes of Dollhouse (recorded the 3rd one last night) and it looks good so far.
Reading the notes above about cancellation; it doesn't look good. The second season premiere earned the shows lowest ratings so far. If it doesn't pick up, the show will definitely be cancelled...
Yeah, I know in America you can watch episodes online after the initial airing, on pretty much any network. I agree with Min, there should be a way around current licensing etc etc to make it worldwide.
I'm sure I speak for many people in the world when I say, I might download things, but if I really enjoy them, I still buy them on DVD to financially support them. If I don't really enjoy them, I don't download.

Complete idiots Fox.
I swear - after this week's episode, if they bloody cancel it!
I mean - what does it take to get some quality viewing on TV?
Something that's entertaining?
Something that makes you think?
Something with couples you want to ship?
Something that's not full of the forced comedy, lame dialogue, re-done storylines i.e. the rubbish that is on TV nowdays?
Perhaps I'm just a bit of an avid fan. But for goodness sake - just because your marketing sux doesn't mean that it's a bad show.
---
In case you you hadn't figured out, I just finished the bombshell that was episode.
Omlud - the morality issues, the twists - I was on the edge of my seat thinking 'OMgOMG'
and people tell me they are going to cancel it?!
[INSERT FRUSTRATED RAGE HERE]
Me thinks I want to write an articulate letter to fox (perhaps a little so then this post) and tell them what we think!
----
But yes.
Brilliant - and yes by FAR the best episode the season :D Makes me uber excited for what's coming up!
Re: Topher x Sierra: I don't think Topher has feelings for Sierra other then something of a friend.
Brilliant dialogue from Adele with Topher btw.
'All our morality has been compromised except yours. Because you had none to begin with.'
It's like - Topher is this brilliant guy - who's like a child, I guess in the sense he believes anything is possible and doesn't fully comprehend the consequences of his actions. Until it's shoved in his face.
It's scary - and something we can all relate to. I really am intrigued by Topher's character.
:O and all the little side plots they were alluding to:
- Echo's scratchings on the wall & reading & lying
- Boyd's past?
- Sierra and Victor developing a relationship past the imprints
- Adele's 'other' indescretions
- Where was Paul?! :P and Saunders for that matter.
That was just a fantastic episode - and surely, I can't just be bias.
EDIT: Wow, that was a little ~:|... half tempted to re-edit my post cause that was a little |:( but I will be so disappointed if they cancel. It just has so much potential - and could you at LEAST wrap up the storyline?
I loved the allusions at the start with Topher working away btw and comparing himself to Alpha XD
Well the fourth episode aired last night. Will try and watch it tomorrow. The frustrating thing is that we in the UK appear to be a few episodes behind you. It makes it very trcky to guess which spoilers to view...
