You know - it's so damn interesting reading back on people's theories since the release of the 5th book. Especially ones concerning a certain split persona misfit... ;)
As has been stated before: I think the consensus is ArielxElspeth is a big big NO. As for Ariel being redeemed - I'm left to wonder...
He's evil.
Evil? What does that mean? Words like 'evil''good''nice''love' have all been used so much in so many different ways in the English language it's hard to determine what someone
actually means with the word.
From good old wiki:
"is a broad term used to indicate a negative moral or ethical judgment, often used to describe intentional acts that are cruel, unjust, or selfish."^ I suppose that sums up our love-to-hate H'Ryaka quite well and yet: Ariel
is human - so theoretically he has the capacity to be good.
I suppose it's whether or not he chooses to exercise it is another matter.
Personally - no. No he's not going to have that sudden revelation. He's chosen that path and while he could go back - I don't think he will.
Elspeth-Ariel battle: Min I love this:
I see it more likely that if Elspeth is to decide Ariel's fate, she'll wipe his mind (if she can control her killing power) and dump him in a ditch. Let him live out his life paying for what he's done, rather than kill him.
It's brilliant - and so true to Elspeth style. Because really - who is Elspeth to judge that Ariel should live or die?
It's not that he doesn't deserve to suffer - but are we so benevolent to sentence him to death? What makes us so righteous?
The simple way would to kill him off.
With someone so far gone as Ariel is that
the solution?

Gah! Pondering about this makes me brain hurt and if I'm not careful I shall be expecting too much from the last book and it'll be a let down. But Lud damn it - what is with Ariel?!?!?! ???
