I've said it before, I'll say it again:
I think Tarsin is the Shadowman. It's his way of serving his kingdom, while keeping within the mould Coralyn has designated him. It could be why all of the Shadowman's supporters seem to be Darkfall supporters also. How the Soulweavers don't know this...or perhaps they do, and decide to stay silent to keep the ruse up.
Ember is the Unraveller - the one who will attempt to free the Unykorn. Glynna is the Soulsaver, with the more important job of saving Lanalor's eternal soul, should Ember fail. The Chaos spirit only cares if the Unykorn is saved, because it'll then have to also release Lanalor's soul. If the chaos spirit gained a soul, it could enter the physical world and wreak havoc. So Glynna is more important. The chaos spirit doesn't know that the Soulsaver is around, and Ember's likeness to Shenavyre and the hype surrounding her being the Unraveller is distracting it...anyway, does that make sense?
Just had another thought...it's trying to escape. Something about the Unykorn and Lanalor being connected. That they could have connected souls...nope, it's gone. Someone else might be able to elaborate on that ;D

hmm that last one is an interestin thought...
now i do agree wit u bout tarsin...but do remember he wouldnt know all of his 'army' - every agent only knows 3 others...for safty rite...but in anycase, i dont think they all cleave to darkfall - they just want ppl to think current life is good/fair/just.. yea.. hmm... its the way the ppl see justice being kept. cos there always has to be the 'robin hood' figure..and thats wat the shadowman is...if that makes sense arghhh head hurts...but yea i basically agree with you min on the shadowman
i think ember is more important then we realise cos ronall has alot of hope/promise in her... so she cant be meaningless...ooo ur thought on Unykorn and Lanalor being connected - if lanalor gave his sould in exhange for the portal...and it would be freed once the Unykorn is freed, doesnt that make them connected?!?! which then [mite] correspond to it being one act... and possibly one person?!?!
on another thought the passages wit the seal (im goin from darkfall here cos i havent yet re-started darksong)... a thought struck me late last nite :S wat the seal goes thru kinda reflects wat the fienna(s) go thru...ie first off it was strugglin wit a bag, near death but manages to get free. slight correlation to the she-feinna being trapped in cage and gettin 'freed'. then the ending...seal new place wit out mother, same as the new he-fienna... i cant really remember the details that made me think of the link, but yea...it is somethin like that. so since glynna is linked to the fienna maybe it resembles her having to do somethin for her home world....i no thats a far shot...but meh, its a thought and i decided to share it wit u ppl :)

;D Hello all, very interesting theories you all have going. I also have many but as I haven't read the books in a while most of them have escaped me. But i do believe Solen to the Shadowman, either him or Soonkar. Ember to be the soul saver and Glynn to be the Unraveller. What is it that Ronaall says to Ember in Darkfall, I can't remember but it was something about her not being strong enough.
Anyway, what are everyones views on the Journey of the Unraveller?
Iris
wat do u mean by the journey?
it actually says right out somewhere near the end Darksong that glynn is the soul saver and ember is the unraveller, but the people of keltor have always assumed that the unraveller and soulsaver are the same person. of course, we know that they are not.
"The paradox was that Lanor had sold his soul into purgatory and risked its loss so that the Unraveller could try to free the Unykorn, but the secret aims of the Chaos spirit had forced it to use the UNraveller as bait and a shield for the presence and activities of her sister. So much effort had gone into suppressing the bright spirit of the blond girl, in orfer to make her invisible to the Chaos spirit"
I think that that spells it out pretty clearly... i could be wrong.... but there are also a few hints in both books that have to do with location...in Darkfall the chaos spirit tells the Draaka that the Unraveller is on Ramidan (where Ember is), while Glynn is listening on Acantha.
I've got the impression pretty strongle that Glynn is the Soulsaver and Ember the Unraveller....

wow cool...i jave to hurry up and re-read it then :S.. :P :D but i will believe!
I thought that the Soulsaver's task was to save Lanalor. But her task was to save his body and soul, since they would be reunited in the Void:
"Of course, it had intended that this reunion would happen in the Void, and it had not said that Lanalor would be released. That had never been its intention."
I think Solen is the Shadowman. In Darkfall, it actually hints that the Shadowman is Acanthan. One of Jurass's daughters says:
"Believes the Shadowman dwells on this very isle."
What do you think the people back in our world are going to do? I was thinking that maybe there'll be a confrontation between Song and Chaos at that concert, on the night the comet flies over. And that musician... Maybe he needs to represent the Song in the music? Since everyone else in Hard Goth seems to represent Chaos. What do you think?
wow i think i really ahve forgotten alot. i like that last point nic! bout the concert!!! i like it alot!!!!! and must say i completely agree wit u!!!! so there is the show down and the comet adds to the awwww-ness and hopefully restores hope. where at that same time in keltor the big unraveller/soulsaver battle is happening ...*shurgs* but i do like that idea!!!
twould add to his sexiness if solen were the shadowman
very true!!!!! but i dont think he is. remember that vision glynn has where hes killed (nO!!!) and that shows hes no the shadowman
oh i hadnt thought of that, hmm but he wont be killed, he wont!!! *sobs hysterically*
could nema, jurass' mum be the shadowman coz if that rumour about acantha is true then....
its just a thought, mind

:O Please not Glynn dying. She's had to fight through so much...
Solen as the Shadowman doesn't fit for me. There are so many connections between the two worlds, to have 'the Shadow' and 'the Shadowman' in both worlds would be a connection as well. Either in spirit or in body - I think Miska said it before - that the Shadow is crazy, and Tarsin is verging on crazy...damn, I can't remember it. Tarsin would be a better Shadowman anyway. :P
I think Solen is the Shadowman. He's involved in too many important meetings, and there's also how he has the power to offer the Shadowman's services to Glynn. And did it actually say that Solen was killed? He might have survived... And we don't know that Glynn DIED. She fell off a cliff, sure, but from what they said it was a low cliff on Myrmidor, and, if so, she could have survived the fall.

true...but i thought it was on the misty isle?! isnt that a bad place for cliffs *ie - the waters below?!?) *shurgs i dont no..il lstart re-reading darksong soon! :)
min thats the main point! :) so ur doin fine!!! and im 10% wit u! :)
This is a passage i came across and i thought, well, you'll see what i think...
Sibyl, in Greek and Roman mythology, any woman inspired with prophetic power by the god Apollo... the most important in Roman mythology was the Cumaean sibyl, Deiphobe...she appeared in the form of an aged woman before Lucius Tarquinius Superbus, the seventh and last king of Rome, and offered him nine prophetic books at a high price. When he refused her, she destroyed three books and then offered the remaining six at the original price; again Tarquin refused, and she destroyed three more. The king finally bought the remaining three at the price demanded for the nine. These three books were placed in the temple of the god Jupiter in Rome and were consulted in times of great emergency. Although the original Sibylline Books were destroyed in a fire in 83 BC, a new collection was subsequently compiled. These, however, were destroyed in AD 405.

so, IC could be comparing the holder to this rather stubborn and...ummm...stupid ruler. now you can all digest this info and post your thoughts

IF YOU HAVEN'T READ DARKSONG... I SUGGEST YOU DO NOT CONTIUE READING!!!!
But why is the shadowman himself so important??? Surely just the work of his people (of which the beautiful Solen is!) has proved the most meaniful part... For what could the actual Shadowman have to do with the unraveller/soulsaver?
The theory on the unraveller and soulsaver is an interesting one...
When you think about IC's writing, you cannot take anything to literally. And when you read and interpret the signs of the Unraveller e.g. Born not of the making of the Song, sings the darksong etc, the first thought is, It's Ember. But surely it cannot be that obvious??? The twist would be that it was Glynn or (Dare I say it) somebody completly different like Soonkar because he's the other noteable stranger.
After you finish ready Darksong it just seems a little like everything is falling into place for a good ending. Ember"s already on the safety of Darkfall, Glynn understands everything that is going on (her being the trakkerbeast and ember being on keltor) Surely there is going to be a major twist in there that nobody can predict...
Is it just me or isn't it a bit questionable how many people know that Glynn and Ember are strangers??? I thought they were suppose to keep it a secret but everybody they come into contact with now seems to know... Maybe Glynn has already betrayed the unraveller? :O
