Sorry dear readers for the delays and broken promises, but I hope you understand that I want to get it done right although while you've been waiting I did find the time to start and finish the Little Fur series and please let's just pretend I don't also have three other incomplete series on the go at the moment, and for those of you, dear readers, who've started reading those other series too don't worry: the last in the Gateway trilogy will be out for Christmas 2026, with Legendsong wrapping up by around 2040.
Ah, but they announced (approximate) release dates for all three Sanderson books before the first one was out, and so far he's hit the first two dates with his first two books. Still a fair bit left to wrap up in the last book and I would be happy if they did split it into two more volumes, but I think he can do it if he has to. Robert Jordan is said to have had the denouement planned from pretty much the beginning, so perhaps he had already written some of the final scenes before he passed.blackbird
And yet, Sanderson was given the notes for the final book, which became two books, and then three, putting the final date back further each time.
I wasn't entirely serious in suggesting somebody else finish the Obernewtyn series, but certainly if it did happen it would have to be based on notes and face-to-face meetings, phone consultation, etc. with Ms Carmody. She could provide the outline and somebody with more time and focus could fill out all of the detail in the same writing style. Also, as Sanderson was given all the notes, the groundwork was already done, and that would be a big time-saver in the production of the books...

If anything I'm amazed at the politeness of all of the replies to my original post. I didn't intend it to be offensive or disrespectful, but my imaginary quote from Ms Carmody was deliberately - well...pointed, as it seemed the best way to make my argument.(And please don't think I'm having a go at you, nnnnnn, or at Sanderson himself. :D Especially as I just finished reading the latest Wheel of Time book.)

the main reason the series isn't finished seems to be because Ms Carmody has deliberately not finished it because she wanted to start a bunch of other series in the mean time,
Well thanks Deb. Yes, I got opinions, and I ain't going to let facts get in the way of them. (OK, not really, I'm open to changing my mind about most things.) If something I said could be taken two ways just assume I meant it the nice way because I hate emoticons so refuse to use them as clues in my posts or emails. Semicolon - bracket. If there is no possible nice interpretation - well, am I old enough to be a curmudgeon yet? Curmudgeon in training, anyway.deb
I'm glad that you are enjoying the site nnnnnn and hope you continue to do so. It's always good to have discussion and I don't think you are being disrespectful, you just have an opinion that you can share.
I wouldn't go that far. I'd never heard of Mr Molyneux or the Fable games until I read your post, but going just on what you've said it sounds like the actual Fable game product is good but nowhere near as good as the hype. The Obernewtyn books, on the other hand, are all good - just very, very slow to actually appear on the shelves. But then I think I've only read one interview with Ms Carmody so I really don't know what (if anything) she's been promising as far as content.Wanderer
I've come to the conclusion that Isobelle Carmody is the literary equivalent of Peter Molyneux.

when the Temple Guardian decides to drop a bunch of clues in Elspeth's lap even though she hasn't fulfilled the steps of her quest that were meant to come first. (Or has she and I just didn't get it?) That bit kind of felt like a deliberate attempt to push the pace of the story to make sure it finishes without too many more volumes.

I love this news, just because it allows me to prolong the fiction of my childhood. The end of the Oberchrons will kind of mean the end of my childhood, so a couple more years lets me pretend for a while longer that I haven't grown up ...
lol yes! What are we going to do. Who's going to get the first typo for 'The Red Queen'halfbreeds_rule
SWEET! :D The only problem now is that all our "Snedding" Jokes are invalid. :P
