Oooooooohhh! Pete @ work told me about this (he lives off the BBC website). I was planning on checking it out when it becomes 'available' ;D thanks for reminding me DO!
Hurray! I'm glad I won't be the only one tuning into this show. The double decker buses keep reminding me to watch it. I read somewhere about how it's filling in the Doctor Who timeslot, let's hope it can at least do so well!
Of course, I left right before it starts. I have perfect timing...
So, what did you guys think of it? I think on a whole it was a bit meh, but Huzzuh for Gwen (that is, Torchwood's Gwen!)! I wanted her to win :P Arthur's a git.
Heheh! I too was cheering for Gwen!
The acting was a bit dodge, but i'm going to keep watching i think. I'm a sucker for teeny cheese shows.
Aw, I liked it! Fluffy Arthurian legend ... s'always good!
Hehehe ... when you guys said Gwen, I was expecting Eve-Myles-Gwen, not Eve-Myles-in-old-lady-prosthetics-Gwen, I only recognised her at the start because of her voice :D And woo for Jethro from the 'Midnight' ep of DW! :P
I'm not sure why I spoilered that ...
omg this sounds really good! hopefully ill be able to catch it!
Still have to watch the first two episodes so i'll let you guys know what i think after that

Wow, I chose the right time to move to the UK, huh?
I missed the first two, but hopefully I should be able to watch the rest from now on. Is it streamed on the BBC website at all? *goes to look*
EDIT: Awesome! I shall have to watch it at some point.
Well, i've now watched the first three episodes.
I don't think it's too bad. Its very watchable and enjoyable. Gwen (from Torchwood) was good as the old hag, and it seems that Michelle Ryan is playing the new evil sorceress.
I shall definitley keep watching this show
I've watched the first two episodes and will watch the third at some point. It's okay, I suppose. I'll watch anything Arthurian, and it's a reasonably interesting twist on the Arthurian legend. It's fun to watch Anthony Stewart Head play a villain (he'll always be Giles to me, though).
I have two main problems: the anachronisms are really painful. I don't mind anachronism when it's done with a bit of a wink - such as in A Knight's Tale or Robin Hood: Men In Tights, but the mish-mash of history, 15th- (at least) century castles sitting next to early medieval villages, vague hints about pre-Utherian chaos with no actual historical reference - are kind of irritating me. It's as if they've kind of deliberately set it in an indeterminate Ye Olde Englande/Britain. Also the dialogue is a bit clunky. But I suppose I've been spoiled by Joss Whedon, and can't expect other TV series to maintain his high dialogue standards.
Its sort of a modern take on the whole Arthurian legend. It is set in an indeterminate time period that resembles generice 'ye olde England' as there have been many theories about when Arthur was actually supposed to have lived (much like Robin Hood). By not defining a time period, it gives the writers a certain freedom I guess
It's interesting, not the best I've seen but I'll keep on watching!
Merlin is starting on Aussie televisions in a few weeks. In Melbourne at least anyways!
May 3 on channel 10!
I'm looking forward to watching it again! hehe. Admittedly it took a few episodes to get into it's stride, but i loved it after that!
Emerald, I saw an ad when at the cinemas... it'll be good to see how everyone reacts to it?
Does anyone know when the new season is ever going to come out?
no new season has been announced as yet, but i've not heard that it's been cancelled either. When i have more info i'll post it here
Wow :O
Right now I am reading The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer and some of the characters are in the series. Is there any way to watch it online? No cable here ~:|
It's not bad. I thought it would be horrible, low budget stuff.
Not bad at all ;) I might watch it some weeks. But I don't think I love it enough to watch religiously.
I really dont like the fact that Merlin is a kid

I just can't watch it. Even the ads were grating my nerves. While I can usually ignore the "historian" part of me, so as to enjoy tv/cinema/etc, when it is so close to/actually something in my field of study, it just upsets me. Every anachronism or blatantly wrong thing just upsets me, and leaves me so tense, it's just not worth watching.
That said, I actually love Arthurian stories.... o_O
Yeah BB thats pretty much the reason I cant watch it either... saying this though I do love the movie Merlin that Sam Neil was in, even got it on dvd the other day :)
The sequel to that (Merlin's Apprentice) is ok, but it's not as good as the first one
Aw, I watched the first episode last week and i really liked it. I think you have to take it for what it is - a light-hearted, cheesy show, aimed at younger teens - early twenties. I did get a bit o_O at some of the historical inaccuracies, but I managed to ignore most of them. (Gwynevere as a servant though? o_O What was with that?). And the whole fight scene with Arthur? o_O Lol.
Even though it is a bit ridiculous sometimes, I don't really care that much about history so I guess I found these inaccuracies funny rather than annoying. ;P And I laughed when the dragon came on. It looked like a cartoon! ;P Though I'll admit they did a good job with a limited budget.
I'm liking the whole relationship between Merlin and Arthur. At first it was a bit weird that Merlin was so young, but then I just reminded myself that it's a cheesy show made only for entertainment, and it was all good. ;P Overall I really enjoyed it. It's good for a bit of fun. (And there's a severe lack of quality shows on at the moment, so I'll take what I can get. ;P ).
I also got all excited at the appearance of Beth. :D As soon as I saw her I pointed her out to my mum excitedly and received only a blank look in return. XD
I really like the movie Merlin as well. :) That was skilfully done.
