'Good,' Iriny said. 'I am not afraid of you either.'
Such a classic Iriny comeback!
Maruman to Elspeth: "Your stomach woke me." :D
- The Stone Key
"you can not live long without knowing the lack of them."
'Sirrah, I am pleased to meet ye. I have always been taught to regard Misfits as dangerous human-shaped beasts or worse. I am shamed now by my former ignorance. I have nivver seen such courage and determination as this young woman has shown, an' if all Misfits are like her, then 'tis an honour indeed to meet their master, be ye beast or human or some port of both.'
'There is none to match the guildmistress of the Farseekers,' Rushton said, but there was no warmth in his voice.
- The Stone Key
My two other favourite quotes are from The Sending:
'He nivver says owt but Elspeth' said an older man. 'Who's that I'd like to ken.'
There was a profound silence.
'That is the woman he loves,' said Brydda at last. 'Elspeth Gordie. Guildmistress of the Farseekers of Obernewtyn Shire, and a stronger woman I never met. If she were here, she would nowt let him slip away. Once before he near died, and she held onto him and forbade it and he lived.'
***********
'Then hold to life, my ravek,' I sent, even as I slipped from his grasp into the darkness. Then I was lost in the shadow sea, and once again I felt the inexorable hand pressing me down ever deeper, but I fought it for the sake of the quest I must complete and for the sake of all I loved.
And I rose.
Here's some quotes I like!:
"What did he tell you?"
"It is rather late in the day to become catious Elspeth." he said in an amused voice (Rushton-Obernewtyn)
"You are a fool alright!"
"You are a fool for thinking you have failed Obernewtyn and you will go on leading us as we strive to find some other way to make our place in the world." (Elspeth - Ashling)
"The truest victory is the winning of hearts and minds." (Gwynedd - The Stone Key)
"Sometimes success demands a certain refined insanity." - Swallow, TKP
Here are some quotes from the Stone Key:
"Look well at her, brave strong warriors of Lud," I snarled."Look at the face of courage, for you have never seen it when you look into the mirror."- Elspeth, about Ursa.
"I have lived with the constant gentling desire of your people to cause as little harm as possible, and I find that is my desire, too. It is because I have had around me Blyss and Dell and all of your people that, in the midst of battle, I was struck by the terrible waste of it, for nothing can be learned by corpses. The truest victory is the winning of hearts and minds."- Gwynedd.
"So said the Council," Jak replied, "but knowledge is no more evil than a knife. It is how knowledge and knives are wielded that makes them evil or not."
"I did not let you leave. I deliberately drove you away, and only then discovered that I had sent the sun into exile. I love you."- Dardelan.
"I/Maruman am not a kitten," the old cat suddenly sent snappily.
"You are certainly not," I sent back pointedly, irritated with myself for letting him glimpse my thoughts. "You are a cranky old feline with bones that ache if you sleep where it's damp, and I can't help worrying about you!"
Oh I love this witty comeback from Elspeth in The Sending:
Maruman asks why she must always question where she is going. To which Elspeth replies, "I am the Seeker, how am I to seek without thinking of what is ahead of me?" Good question Elspeth!

'I wondered if i had been caged too long to contemplate freedom.'
Elf, Obernewtyn
'I always fight for what I want'- Rushton, the Farseekers
Yeah except for in Ashling, The keeping place, The stone key and The sending, when did you fight for what you want?!

I come unto thee, Sentinel. Judge my hand and let me pass, for all I have done was in your name.
-The stone key
'You are the change-bringer. Whatever choices you make lead to change for the rest of us. But it is not something you chose.' ....
'What do you mean?' I whispered
'Before the next wintertime ends, you will bid farewell to all that you love and you will journey far over land and sea to face the beast.'
'All that i love?' i echoed
'All' Dell said

I also like this one even if it is a little sad
It came to me then, like a chilly draught from an unseen gap, that i had always Known in my deepest heart that it would be like this, a slipping away from a life full of people i had come to love, in a place i had helped to shape, in a land i had helped to free.
-Elf, The sending
and so I turned my back on the great house and passed though the gates of Obernewtyn for the last time with as little idea of what lay ahead of me as when I had first come though them, years before
