After reading Enai's theories on The Sending, it got me thinking, what if Jes isn't dead and is in league with Ariel? What if he has been a spy like Domick? Or is Ariels right hand man? That would definitely be a good reason to bring him back and it would also create another challenge for Elspeth. Maybe Jes is with Salamander? Perhaps killing Ariel means she has to kill Jes?

I would not be surprised in the least if Jes was somehow linked in as a bad guy, but I do think that Ariel will be the destroyer, hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... Salamander would be perfect... then again I can't think of Jes as being a slavetrader.... I think that is somehow worse than being the Destroyer, because the Destroyer could want to use the power not necessarily to kill or hurt people.
hmmmm.... Ariel is evil and plays major role, there is no doubt about that.
MAYBE ARIEL HAS JES CAPTURED AND HAS MANIPULATED HIM LIKE RUSHTON WHEN HE WAS TORTURED INTO DOING HIS EVIL WORK...... that would be a better ending than having Jes as just plain Evil.
and then Elspeth will have to kill Jes herself even though its not his fault he is evil but she has no choice. :O
If Jes was alive I could definitely see Ariel wanting to track him down and find him because of his killing power that he shares with Elspeth. Ariel would definitely want to use that to his advantage somehow.
Whether or not Jes would be an antagonist on his own accord or coereced into acting as one, I don't know. I'd prefer it be the second option and that he would be driven to it by Ariel's empathy, but I can see Jes being bitter and angry with non-misfit people so it is possible that he would want to lash out at them--and perhaps want the weaponmachines for that purpose.
Pretty sure Jakoby's sister is Salamander. One reason she keeps her face covered. Also at Ariel's place on Norse Island there was a woman's chamber. Not to mention the fact that when Elspeth saw Salamander in the cave, she had Sadorian eyes.
