I read The Red Wind and while I didn't particularly enjoy it I thought it has a lot of the same themes that run through the OC (and the little fur books which i also can't get into). I have been left to wonder though about what is to come in the next story.

You didn't enjoy it Deb?
I was worried, I've not read the Little Fur series yet ( |:( ) and I was unsure how much I would enjoy a children's book...but, I loved it!
I like the concept that IC sends, of the simplicity and sustainability of the lives of the brothers.
I really enjoyed how they called the unknown animal "Monster". Without IC's beautiful illustrations, I may not have realised it was actually a cat! :P
I am looking forward to the next books, and now I will definitely get the Little Fur series.
I'm sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy it Deb. I read it yesterday and it was definately a worthwhile 1 and a bit hours of my time spent. I thought it was a beautifully written novel. I have to agree with you BlackBird, IC's illustrations were splendid and the concepts were so simple. I can't wait for the second book in the series to see which obstacles the brothers will face building their new home.
@ BB - You'll enjoy the little fur series! The medium of illustrations is very similar to red wind and so are the themes.
BB - I have all the Little Fur books, but have only just started reading them after reading The Red Wind. I really enjoyed it.
It is simple story but with such deeper themes running through it. I love that IC can do that with an adult, young adult and even a children's novel.
I am so jealous though! Not only is IC talented at writing and weaving her stories, but she is so talented in her illustrations too. They really were beautiful! I would never have been able to properly imagine what Bily and Zluty looked like otherwise! :)
Also looking forward to the other books to come out. In the meantime, I'm hoping to finish reading the Little Fur books before my holidays finish! :)

I guess I'm too old to really get into the 'voice' of IC's childrens stories. I agree that the illistrations are wonderful and the stories are great stories, just not of particular intrest to me personally, though the message is one I love. Meh, go figure.
