I've just spied this book on my sister's bookshelf :D
So what did everyone think of it? Has anyone read the other version of the book Falling Leaves? If so, since they both tell the same story, what did you find different about them?

As part of my English subject this year my class read Chinese Cinderella. It was good but really sad. How could Niang be so cruel? :"(
Is CC the children's version of FL? I found FL to be a litany of grievances, a resentful, betrayed outpouring, every page full of heartbreak and resentment. It annoyed me. Don't get me wrong, what happened to her was horrible, and I was not unmoved by it, but I don't like the way she wrote about it. It would have been a better book if she'd kept some distance from the story, not been driven quite so much by her emotions while she was writing. The authors of a few other Chinese biographies, Wild Swans and Mao's Last Dancer, also had difficult lives, and painful stories to tell, but wrote about them with grace.
I'll stop hijacking the thread now, as I haven't actually read CC.
I read Chinese Cinderella in primary school and Falling Leaves a couple of months ago. I can't quite remember Chinese Cinderella to tell you the differences though! :P
I agree, it was such a sad story. The duck!! Niang was horrible, and everyone going along with her was just insane too. The amount of times she disowned people and manipulated everyone, gah!
