So we can stop hijacking the SG-1 thread.
Having watched the most recent episode (ep 3, if I consider the two hour pilot to be just one episode), I'm starting to get more into this show. It still bothers me that there are no lighthearted moments of comradrie on the ship, but I'm getting to know the characters a little better, which is always good. I'm actually curious about what's going to happen next possibly because they're on their way to crashing into a sun and Rodney's not there to get them out of it. The idiocy of some of the characters is still annoying though oh, we have power issues, let's just wander around turning things on! Isn't that a good idea? What do you mean the resrve power is all gone?? ??? Why now? How could that happen? ::)
And I'm not sure about Rush. In some ways, he's like Rodney McKay on crack, but he's not nearly as intelligent... (sorry, fangirlyness kicked in). He's the only character so far that I care about at all; the rest are all either annoying, stupid, peripherals, or all of the above.
Ep 3 (or 4) felt...wrong. It's the sort of episode that'd crop up developing aside characters, when they were running out of storyline in SG-1 or Atlantis. I know I keep comparing it to those two but honestly, it's supposed to be a part of that world.
I have to admit I got bored and zoned out, so I didn't see if the ending was any better. But yeah. I just don't know why the episode with the power issues and withdrawl symptoms (that was clever) story was interspersed with information about minor characters that felt like it belonged in...oh, season 4 episode 10, or something, once we'd gotten used to the show and actually cared more about those characters :P you know what I mean?
And Elii is not funny. I do not like him. That is all :P
I just assumed those people who talked into the camera were going to end up being the main characters once things got settled o_O If they're not, then yeah, I agree; totally out of place.
And I agree. Elii is a pain in the butt, especially all the Planet of the Apes references ::)
I've just found this thread after replying to the SG-1 thread.
I'm enjoying the series so far. I've seen the first three episodes (have just recorded the fourth) and I think it has potential. Ok, so i've only seen the first season of SG-1, and i've never seen Atlantis, but I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.
where else would you see a sentient whirlwind?
I don't expect the characters to have any light-hearted moments this early into the series. Afterall, they just been dumped on a derelict spaceship in a distant galaxy, with little prospect of getting home and with life support. Once they accept their lot i think the characters will start to gell with one another
I was really open to it until episode 4. There was just something about it that made me turn it off about 10 mintutes in. I've decided that I watch enough other tv programmes that I shouln't force myself to watch one just because I think I should like it :P
I haven't started watching this yet. (I've told myself I'm not allowed to until after exams :P ) But I don't know if I will bother since a lot of people have been saying it's not nearly as good as SG1 and Atlantis . . . but it has Robert Carlyle in it and I love Robert Carlyle. :(

Me too Sionainn. I think the problem is I think I had higher hopes for it with his inclusion in the series. And it's so...well, boring, over dramatic, etc. I really don't know why he put his name to it :-/
I'm still enjoying it, though the fourth episode finished on a cliffhanger! Can't wait for this Tuesday's ep!
I still haven't seen any SGU but I have heard a lot of bad things about it. Then again, I hated SGA for basically the entire first season. By the end of S05 I was railing at the injustice of it being cancelled :P
I was against the injustice of atlantis being cancelled aswell! sorry sidetracked. I think it's just finding its feet. I like rush a lot, he is definately the most interesting character. I HATE Tj the blonde haired manic. how does she have time/ will to do here hair like that. It's like she is going to a formal or something. i have never been so irked by anyone before. That aside I'm goning to keep watching because I have hope that it will be awesome once the ball is rolling.
I like Rush, too. My mum hated him for the first few episodes until she realized (as I did back in episode one) that he was the only character with a story arc worth caring about. All the others are so two-dimentional and/or annoying that I just can't make myself like them.
Has anyone made it as far as the "fall finale" (episode 10 "Justice")?
I can't believe the Comander just left Rush on that planet! I mean, we all know what's going to happen now; Rush, being a genious, is going to get the weird Alien ship working, and he's going to catch up to them.
Edit: I just accidentally read a spoiler while trying to locate the episode name and number in order to properly identify the spoiler above X:-/ I was worried that Rush would be reduced to guest-star status and become another Aiden Ford/Michael type character, but it looks like he'll be back among the crew by episode 14 "Human" which "focuses on Rush" :D (I'm guessing they're going to make him somewhat more sympathetic in this episode, judging by the title. I just hope he doesn't get all whiny like all the other characters :|
But spoilers asside, Rush is definately the only thing (currently) that's keeping me watching; I like seeing him yell at people XP .
I've only sen the first ep - I wasn't too sold ... you're right about Rush being the only character worth caring about ... but I kept having seeing him in the full monty ...
Rush reminds me of my physics teacher, whom I can't take seriously. So I really can't empathise with him at all.
++++++ Stargate Universe News +++++++
MGM has officially cancelled Stargate Universe, which will finish at the end of its second season. This ends a 14 year continuous run of Stargate on TV.

I watched the first three or four episodes when first screened in Australia but when Channel Ten cancelled it I was more annoyed with them for hyping it up so much and then killing it straight away (and ending on a cliffhanger) then I was bothered by not finding out what was going to happen.
Still, now that they've started it again on Channel Eleven I'm at least going to watch enough to see the end of that cliffhanger.
My general opinion based on what I've seen so far is that they wanted to take the Stargate brand-name and combine it with Lost and Battlestar Galactica and the result (again judging by only the first four episodes) seems really artificial and just plain boring.
I agree with comments above that Rush seems the most interesting character, but at the same time he's not just an obnoxious jerk in the way Rodney was when he started out on SG1: by deliberately and unnecessarily evacuating to the Ancient ship instead of home to Earth Rush is really only one step up from being a murderer. He's directly responsible for the resulting injury and death. Obviously that had to happen due to the premise of the show, but it also means I'm never going to like that character, and if the only really interesting character is impossible to like...
i agree with nnnnnn about Rush but he also seems to know more than he should and i must say about the last episode of season one
was kind of dissappointing and overdone as there was a huge cliffhanger over many different things about the lucianalliance and the radiation
Trust me that season two gets a lot better, and there is a whole new mythology and mystery added to the Stargates, the Destinys purpose and gatebuilders themselves.
While I understand peoples views to the first season, the second season has been much more dramatic and edgier, and has left the mid season hiatus on one hell of a cliffhanger!
Well I missed the first few minutes of last night's episode on Eleven, but at least I finally found out what happened with the "we're crashing into a sun" cliffhanger from way back when Channel Ten cancelled the show. Unfortunately as soon as they started talking about saving some of the group on the shuttle I was able to guess the ending. Except: did Dr Rush know (or guess) what was going to happen or not?
So I can stop watching now. Or, Dark One, are you telling me I should keep watching so that I'll know what is happening when it finally gets good in the next season?
Nnnnnn the show does start to pick up during the second season, but since it's been cancelled it's not like you will be missing out on all the much.
I have a certain amount of respect for it's differences but it does have a tendency to drag at times, and I don't really like many of the characters. They all need to get over themselves and grow up.
nnnnn: If you feel you are enjoying SGU, then I'd say stick with it and watch through to the second season.
Everyones opnions and views are fairly unique, and not everyone will like a particular show or series. I for one, enjoy watching SGU, and I'm dissapointed that it has been cancelled.
