I've recently been looking at getting a graphics tablet... just for hobby's sake; I'm not looking to become a professional artist. The biggest difference I've been able to see is the size of the drawing area, and some don't say anything about having software included, but that doesn't mean they don't...
Anyway, I was told Artistsmerge might be a good place to ask advice on this matter. I've never used one of these things before, so I really don't know what would be best.
Are there any specific features you would recomend I look for? Is a small drawing area annoying?

I have a 5x8 Wacom Intuos[sup]3[/sup] which is absolutely brilliant but not something I would recomend if it's just for hobby (technically I only wanted it for hobby too but I'm fussy and wanted better quality). I would still go with the Wacom brand though. I've played around with a few other brands and they aren't as good -- have to press harder to get it to work and the pens are usually battery opperated which is just annoying -- but I guess it depends mainly on your price range.
My friend has a 3x5 Wacom Graphire[sup]4[/sup] -- which they no longer make, Bamboo is now the one that has replaced them -- and I think this is the smallest size tablet you can get. I've used it and obviously she's used it so personally I don't really think the working size of the tablet is really an issue. Since you don't already have one you probably would find it to be even less than an issue since whatever size you get will be the size you get used to . . .. I prefer my 5x8 because it's what i'm used to using so when I use either my mothers which is larger or my friends I feel a little unco but it's still simple enough to get working :P
Anyway as far as wacom is concerned, for hobbying the Bamboo would probably be the one I'd suggest since it's just an upgrade from the Graphire. Having started out on a Graphire myself I'd say it's the way to go . . .
It's funny you would suggest the Bamboo... that is the one I was looking at in the store and I came THAT close to buying it, but then thought I'd best do some research first since I have no experience with this type of tech. Besides which, I didn't know if I should go for the larger tablet, which cost almost twice as much.
I expect I will go shopping this weekend :D (thank goodness for payday, lol)
And thank you Sionainn :D
Yeah Agyllian the CTE 440 is a Grphire tablet, they don't make those ones anymore so you can only get them second hand these days :(
So I FINALLY made it back to Future Shop and got the Bamboo, and now I am sitting here using obernet to get used to using the pen for navigation. It seems to work well with Corel Photo House, but also came with a disk with 3 other programs I can install if I feel the need to. It's a bit weird, but surprisingly easy to use. So far, I am pleased with it.
Thank you very much for helping me out :D
