Okay; saw it tonight; and I actually really liked it. I haven't actually read the books in several years but I thought that the characterisations and casting were all done well. The relationships could have been slightly better developed but I supposed that they weren't actually too bad.
I did find it interesting that in the beginning Robin's family and beliefs were almost exaggerated to be what seems to be the stereotypically accepted norm of a 'christian' family.
Saw it today, and it was a lot better than I was expecting. The acting was overdone in some parts, and that last part was a bit cliched, but on the whole the acting was good. I thought the portrayals of Homer, Chris and Kevin were really good. The best parts were Homer on the rock impersonating Gandalf, Homer releasing the hand-brake on the cop car then stealing the painters ladder, and the end where Lee had an RPG strapped to his back. And Ellie and Corrie's discussion about the books being better than the movie adaptations.
On the whole extremely enjoyable, very funny in parts. I'm really looking forward to the next part.
HAHAHAH BB that made me giggle like a school girl :P
I just saw the movie today, it was really, really, really AWESOME! I wonder if they're gonna make the other books into movies aswell....
Shadowhunter. :) You'll be happy to know that they have decided to make the first three of the books (TWTWB, The Dead of the Night, The Third day the frost) into movies and run the other four into a TV series. You'll also be happy to know that all of the actors have decided to keep their parts and are pleased to be in the other movies. Although, you obviously will see more of some characters then off others because if you've read all of the second novel you'll know that some of the characters aren't a main part of it compared to the first novel.
I heard VC that if the Movies don't make enough in the box office then they'll make a TV series, but if they make enough, and are popular enough then it'll still be all in movie form.
I just bought the whole series at Big W because they were $12 instead of $18, but I haven't got around to reading them yet. I'd like to see the movie as well (but preferably after I read the book, so I'll probably have to wait until it comes out later) - my mum saw it and loved it, and my best friend has read the first few and seen it as well. She said that she thought that Ellie's character was a bit too angry and swore too much or something. Does anyone else think that way?
Well.. Ashaleeahie I don't rember Ellie swearing. Just forget I said that... Yep.... I know remember the part int he movie where your friend is talking about. my only disappointment with the movie was the length. They could have seriously made it longer!!!!!!!!!!!
@ Marsie - That'd be good if they did that like kept all of them movies. :P

If your '...' before my name meant that my name is a bit long and confusing, you can call me Ash or Florash, if you like! :) - WAIT my nickname isn't too weird is it?! Because I think someone else seems to think so...
Hopefully once I see the movie I can come back on here and decide what I think of it for myself!

1. Yes.
2. Yes.
3. Difficult to say, but I think closer to no.
4. In the original series of 7, no, not that I know of.
5. Haven't read the post-war Ellie Chronicles yet, so I can't comment.
6. See above.
I've still not seen this movie! :"(
I've been putting off re-reading the series until I see it, so as not to "ruin" the movie....
I can answer those last two, although, question five is open to interpretation.
5. No
6. Yes
For 4 maybe yes, with the 'lee thing' (gosh i hated him for that)
But then she did kinda like rat him out... so i dunno, any comments people who have read them all and knoe what i'm on about? :D
4. I'd say yes Colonel Long. Sure, he doesn't do it for the right reasons, but he does do it at least
Marley - I can't work out what you mean by 'Lee thing'. Can you spoiler bar it and tell me? I'm really intrigued...
I still haven't seen the movie either! And I've only read the first Ellie chronicle and I didn't like it that much, but I also can't really remember what happened.

Cat, I think Marley means when Lee has a bit of fling with an enemy girl. I can't remember which book it happens in. Possibly Burning for Revenge. They were all staying in Stratton, and Lee had been sneaking off, sometimes coming back with mushrooms for them all to eat. One night Ellie follows him, and he meets a girl on a farm. Luckily for Lee, that happens to be the night the girls betrays him, and Ellie's there to save the day!
Sorry, that was rather badly explained.
Yeah thats what i meant :D
I just couldn't be bothered sppoilering it and explaining it properlies :D

Yeah, I don't really see that as her being on the "Aussie side" though..... ;P To me, it seemed like she was just using him for a while (he did save her life, after all - when he got her out of the dam) and then she set him up to be killed/captured...
Also, Colonel Long....well....I don't know if you can count him...his intentions are definitely not helping Aussies/Ellie/anyone except himself!

No, neither do I Blackbird, but at least it shows some variation in their interaction with the enemy :P

True, Kaede. It does show that not everyone is there for the same reasons...
Then again, I think Wanderer's questions are so very black/white that it makes such grey areas difficult to answer for... :P
Oh, right, yeah I remember that.
I went with Colonel Long because he did say "aid" and "for any other reason". I don't think the Lee incident did much aiding, but Colonel Long at least did help, even if it wasn't for particularly altruistic reasons.
I agree with cateyes, at least Colonel long made an effort helped us out, saved our hero, but yeah it was for the wrong reasons, but i guess its better to have be nice for the wrong reasons then to be horrid fpr the right reasons. The right reason in this case being fighting for his country and haeting our faces.
I finished listening to the audio CD of the book and thinking back to the movie, they did change and move some scenes/events around a bit. Though I can understand why they did so, so it would be more action-packed. Saying that though, besides some rearranging of some events and excluding some other stuff, it was fairly faithful to the essence of the book - I think so anyway.
Hopefully my work gets the next audio CDs of the next book, I really like listening to a book while driving. I was tearing up a little near the end when Corrie was unconscious and had been shot, and she was leaving with Kev
