I have two questions.
When entering pictures into the items category, should we erase the background of the image?
Also, do these need to be straight photographs? Or can we play with them at all before uploading?

I guess you've already answered it, I was just wondering that if you wanted images which would be able to be used in new pictures, it might be better if they just had plain backgrounds. I have a picture which I think would be good, but it has some complicated stuff in the background and I wondered if I should edit it out.
Oh, I see - I think just put it up. Anyone who wants to cut out the background bits can do it in photoshop/whatever if they want to use it in the Calendar comp :)
This is just going to be a store of stock photos we can use without having to worry about copyright - it's up to whoever uses it to edit it.

Me again, with another question, sorry.
I have a picture which doesn't have the right proportions to fit the pixel requirements, and it doesn't really have a 'border of background uselessness' that I could crop to make it fit. Would it be all right to submit it with slightly too few vertical pixels? Or should I put a black strip down the bottom to make it fit? Or would giving up on this picture be the preferred option?
What size / proportions is it in?
I would recommend cropping the photo, so that for this particular comp it appears at a max of 640 x 480, but let us know the particulars. If it's something like 640 x 400, then that will be fine. Basically 640x480 is the maximum pixel size. Anything smaller than that is fine.

OK, So I have submitted some photos for the comp but realised afterwards that I haven't given any description other than a title. Is there some way of editing the entries or does a description not matter?
If there is a way of editing them I don't know it, but you can always just write a description in the comments.

If you want to add a description, maybe just submit a comment underneath it? Other than that, I think the titles should describe your meaning.
EDIT: Cat-Eyes beat me to it :P

Thanks guys, if people want more info or a description they can ask I guess. Cheers
Deb - we can add a description for you. Just PM it to me and I'll amend it (if you haven't already posted it as a comment).

Cool Min, will do but probably not until after the weekend. Too much else to get sorted before I head to Sydney. Thank you.
Can everyone who's submitted photos and not done so already, please PM me with which category their photo is supposed to be in.
Remember there is a 3 photo limit per category. So you can submit 3 item shots, 3 landscape shots, 3 animals, 3 buildings.
Thanks.

will get mine done in the next couple of days.
I have a photo that reminds me of the markets/moonfair in the books, should i submit that under the buildings category, if at all?
I'd say buildings or landscapes? As a sort of suburban (as suburban as Obernet can get :P ) landscape...?

I've uploaded about 150 photos to my Picasa album for people to use as they like. I think I have to give them access though. Not sure how to do this. Any help appreciated.

Can anyone remember the name and description of the flowers mentioned by Solen and later Glynn in Darkfall? Unfortunately I don't have a copy of the book, so I can't be sure of the picture will match the description.

It's called sether, and here are all the quotes I can think of that mention it: 'Her initial, startled thought was that the island was covered in snow. Then she realised the whiteness was some sort of pale, nearly luminous moss with feathery fronds. It was dense enough to carpet terrain that was virtually flat aside from occasional rocky stubble protuding through the vegetation.'
'...she was startled to notice a sheaf of sweet-smelling sether lying on the timber block that served as a table. She approached the blooms warily...'
The only other mention of sether is sky sether - 'a mangled blue flower.' (when Saxa dissolves his handfasting with Hella and throws the sether at Hella's feet)
Deb - I'm pretty sure you restrict the album to invite only and then there'll be a link on the right that allows you to invite people to view your photos. Then you plug in their email address and they're sent an invite to it.
Let me know if that doesn't make sense and I'll put a more specific tutorial up over the weekend :P

that makes sense I guess so now all I need to do is wait for people to send me their email address if they want to access the pix. Feel free by the way, thats what they are there for and I have some pretty good ones :P
If you offer to judge can you enter photos? if there is more than 1 judge?? spose this is a general question... but yeah.... I going to enter but i wanted to offer to judge.
Nope - if you judge, you can't enter - same rule as usual :)

I was wondering that as well - I thought it might work differently because it's being judged with polls...
And I really must get my photos organised! ~:| [act]wanders off to trawl through my hard drive again[/act]
