The free childs program - paint.
I still remember that day in prep when we were taught how to use paint, its fun, easy and...simple, unlike that evil photoshop, paint brings a whole new meaning to simple. What that meaning is, I have no idea.
Anyway, one day I was doing a lote project at school, but none of the backgrounds were good enough, so I thought back to paint and amazingly and created my own background, I'll show you one after I put it onto a free image hosting program...
Paint is the simple easy way to make backgrounds and I even made a little road scene and put it onto powerpoint and made a car run on it. People were amazed and when they asked me how I did it, I simply answered.........paint!
Paint - The Simple Savioiur!!! Go paint!!!
[act]discreetly waves a GO PAINT!!!! flag[/act]
Paint, I love Paint... but then again I can hardly use Photoshop.
It is a bit hard to draw though. Does anybody have any tips for using paint? Or are you all too Hi-tech? lol.
I managed to work out how to use paint when everything was written in Chinese to make my Double Post monster (I was living in China at the time, thank god for little icons!). I don't think I'd have been able to work out Photoshop without being able to read the language.

I think I remember using one of the very first MS paints on microsoft 3.1. I use to go out to my dad's work and use it to paint up this and that. One of my mates at uni had this shirt with a pattern of triangles on it last week and it looked exactly like something I did when I was 6 - I knew I should of copywrote my work ;P .
TSC - What problems are you having with paint?
My life depends on paint *waves her flag (made by paint)*
I also love free programs
Nah, they're not really problems.
More like frustration with the fiddly bits... [act]grimaces[/act]
If I had any suggestions, it would be to NOT use the pencil. Frustrating little thing. Use the paintbrush instead
How do you resize stuff? Can you resize stuff in paint? And the thing that really annoys me, is it possible to crop the left and top sides? I know you can move the bottom and right sides, but you don't seem to be able to crop from the top and left. It's really annoying...

I think you just pull the edge over don't you?
And for resizing you could just put it into photobucket, and resize it there.

I just had a bit of a look. I haven't tried it out and I'm usually a Photoshop user, but it looks like in version 6.0 you can go Image > Resize/Skew or hit Ctrl+W to resize. You can also go to Image > Attributes if you want to add space to your canvas without changing the size of the picture you've already drawn. To Crop, use the Select or Free-form Select tools (The ones that look like boxes made of dotted lines) to select the area you want to keep and then go to Image > Crop. If you haven't selected anything Crop will be greyed out in the menu.

I haven't found a reliable way to resize in paint, because the so-called resize it has only resizes the canvas and ruins your picture by cutting off the majority of it. That's what happens with my version anyway, I haven't checked on a newer version to see if the resize function has been fixed. But as a rule I don't generally use paint, as GIMP (the program I use) does all the stuff paint does better :P
By the way Maruman, GIMP is a free program that is relatively easy to use, you just have to pay to download it pretty much.
Well, I would put it in photoshop, but I normally only use paint if I don't have photoshop or anything better :P
Thanks for the tips Tanya!
Well, in paint, I would use the stretch/skew thing (Ctrl + W). Sorry but....yay paint!
I can't use photoshop... Thre only thing I do with it is to colour the eyes or blur the whole thing... Paint works so much better~~~ Wuffles paint...
Unfortunately, I only have photoshop at school, so I need to steal a school computer |:|
I have no idea how to use photo shop, also my dad wont get it :| , but i love paint with out i wouldnt have most of my sigs...coz i just make them in there :P lol osme one should make paint sigs saying "go paint" lol

You guys do quite well if all you use is Paint for your images!
Programs like Photoshop can be a little confusing at first because there are so many tools at your fingertips, but once you know the basics, the possibilities are fantastic!
For example, you can undo your mistakes more than 3 times (pet peeve of mine with paint :P)
I only use paint for really simple projects, for the simple fact it's simple to us :P. For all my resizing needs I use a program called Irfan view, which I'm currently writing a tute for :)
Curious, how do you guys do all your resizing?
I use microsoft picture manager....WHen i was first attempting to figure it out Eilidh told me to use it...i find its really easy to do...

I have never heard of that.
Go figure :P Is it a standard program that comes with Microsoft?
I'm actually quite impressed. Thats really good :P and dementicated, your bucket, is not *has been playing lego star wars too much*
I used to love paint. Then i discovered Fireworks. And then i discovered Photoshop and Illustrator. And i never looked back :P
I used to use fireworks! I had some things I prefered in fireworks and some in photoshop.
My biggest problem in photoshop (aside from the fact I don't appear to have it anymore) is that I know there are so many cool things I could do, but I don't know how to do them. I can do some stuff, but there's lots I can't.

lol Ness I'm not surp\rised you never looked back. There's a difference between dabbling and being a graphic designer :P
Cat - I used to feel that way. I taught mysef with tutorials. Eg if I wanted a text effect for example I'd type something like "Photoshop tutorial text effects" into Google and follow the tutorials I'd find. The same with anything else I want to make. After a little while following tutorials gradually you pick up bits and pieces of how Photoshop works and suddently you find you don't need the tutorials anymore for some of your projects. That doesn't really help with it having disappeared though :P

I think paint deserves as much respect as any other program.
Also I need to enlarge my picture (above), but I can't do it now. btw the reason why its so small, is because I put it signature sized. I'll put in the picture when I get home.
EDIT: I can't make it any bigger without it getting pixilated, oh well
