Larkin is quite correct in saying that when looking into the Beforetime, there is always the potential of finding something dangerous. There's always the chance that seekers of the past may misunderstand the purpose of Beforetime technology: a misunderstanding that could have drastic effects."Maybe there might be something left, but just in case Matthew is right an' the holocaust were man-made, it might be better to leave that stuff hidden. After all, we dinna want to be finding out how they did it."

"Power has a way of ... changin' a person. In th' end, what would all that power do to ye good intentions?"Furthermore, there will always be people like Alexi, Madam Vega and Ariel, who crave such power and actively seek these things to unleash death and destruction.
"Knowledge of tools and crafts" in this sense is not covered by our own definition, however it clearly does not mean knowledge in general, and our position affirms that having some knowledge of these technologies is a different matter to making use of them.Technology is a broad concept that deals with a species' usage and knowledge of tools and crafts, and how it affects a species' ability to control and adapt to its environment.
The Negative team
"The Negative team believe that technology from the Beforetime should be examined and learned from, but not all of it should be used. We believe that we should use only the technology that will do good."How does one define "good"? No single authority can tell people which Beforetime technology is good and which is bad. Weapons seen as good by the Herders are certainly not viewed as good by their victims. Furthermore, how exactly do the negative team propose to identify such "safe and good" items? It may look harmless, but we, as Gypsies and Landfolk, can never know if such an innocent, unassuming item is really the second-great-white-causing-spork!
"Obviously, the best way to avoid misunderstandings is to educate the Land people about beforetime technology- i.e.: bringing them to the forefront and explaining them instead of covering them up and pretending they don't exist."Sadly, learning in this context is just a fundamental that cannot extend to the complexities of Beforetime technology. While we are not wanting to deny knowledge of the Beforetime, we do not have the understanding of Beforetime sciences, and the time taken to understand such matters could be better spent focusing on practical learning to help us, the people of the Land: gypsies, Misfits and Landfolk alike. We shall be discussing this point later on.
At the beginning of this speech I stated that we the Affirmative, are not afraid of beforetime tek also and this leads me to our third speakers point. There is tek that has been with us Land inhabitants through out the ages since the Great White and its origins were most likely from the Beforetime. However as our needs changed, so too did this tek in order to better fit our lives. This continuation makes it our teknology, not the Beforetimers. The Befortimers tek is tek that has been long since discarded.
This development of teknology that has occurred over time, has conformed to the natural development of people and our reactions to the society we live in. We the Affirmative believe that abruptly bring in some form of Beforetime tek that could interrupt this natural development, as we would have to search for a reason to use it and fit it into our lives,therefore stunting the growth and development of the teknology already in use in our world.
...introducing beforetime tech would be going against nature. It would also mean a double up of teknologies, although one would be obsolete (beforetime tek) in-comparison to the new. The new being that of the misfit's talents and things such as herb lore.
Current technologies have not superseded beforetime technologies in any way, beforetime tech simply haven’t been understood properly yet. Just because you still don’t know how to ride a bike (yes the crappy bike analogy is back) it doesn’t mean walking is faster…
There is farseeking, as previously mentioned, to cover communication to humans, coercing for protection and healers and herb lore for healing. But we in this current day and age have two things that the beforetimers did not. Empathy and Beast speaking (both mental and finger speech). These two allow for greater and better communication, and naturally a better future for all creatures, not just humans, especailly now that Talented Misfits are slowly being accepted into society and are able to make their abilities available to all.
There are other teknologies such as Jak's worm that evolved from the Great White and heal tainted land.
It is clear from the Affirmative's argument that there other things our time would be better spent on than looking into technologies that the Beforetimers left behind, as they are obsolete in many ways, and cause unnecessary harm in most cases.
