I was watching some awards show today - and from a movie - let's assume this dialogue is between a father and son:
Father: The only real losers are the people who are so afraid of losing they don't even try. Are you trying?
Son: *sniffle* yes
Father: Then you aren't a loser.

Dignity consists not in possessing honors, but in the consciousness that we deserve them. - Aristotle
I'm very pleased with each advancing year. It stems back to when I was forty. I was a bit upset about reaching that milestone, but an older friend consoled me. 'Don't complain about growing old - many, many people do not have that privilege.'
- Earl Warren
We lift ourselves by our thought, we climb upon our vision of ourselves. If you want to enlarge your life, you must first enlarge your thought of it and of yourself. Hold the ideal of yourself as you long to be, always, everywhere - your ideal of what you long to attain - the ideal of health, efficiency, success. - Orison Swett Marden
I have come to believe that giving and receiving are really the same. Giving and receiving - not giving and taking. - Joyce Grenfell

" As we grow up, we learn that even the one person that wasn't supposed to ever let you down probably will. You will have your heart broken probably more than once and it's harder every time. You'll break hearts too, so remember how it felt when yours was broken. you'll fight with your best friend. You'll blame a new love for things an old one did. You'll cry because time is passing too fast, and you'll eventually lose someone you love. So take to many pictures, laugh to much, and love like you've never been hurt because every sixty seconds you spend upset is a minute of happiness you'll never get back. Dont be afrain life your will end, be afraid that it will never begin."
Anon
"There are two ways to get past a mountain. You can go around it or you can climb over it. The first is easier but you miss the view from the top"
"It is useless to put up a sign saying "do not pick the cherry blossoms" for the wind cannot read"
"Faint heart ne'er won fair lady"
"Take what you want and pay for it"
These are my favourite quotes and they're the ones I try to live by :)
