Well it was a good start the new series.
It is meant for a younger audience, but as usual, the BBC has made a superb sci-fi related series for kids that adults can watch.
The pilot was a mixture of stories that have been done beofre rolled into one. The premise was that a new soft drink had been made that was controlling most of the UK population. Most people were hooked on the stuff, but there was about 2% of the population who couldn't drink it. Sarah Jane investigates this, and meets her new 13-year old neighbour who gets tangled up in the whole affair.
The secret ingrediant of the drink is bane (a living substance) secreted by the Bane Mother, which can take over the bodies of those that have drunk it. The Bane Mother is a huge octopus like alien that hangs from a ceiling in the factory (similar to the Jagaroth in Satellite 5).
The action is quite fast-[aced when it gets giong, and K-9 makes a brief apperance, though he wont be in ther series proper.
All in all a good start. The pilot was 60mins long, and the series (which starts later in the year) will have episodes 30mins in length.

Do you know what age range it's actually aimed at? The adverts had me a little confuzzled, and kinda put me off.
Don't think I'll be tuning in when the series starts (have to catch up with Torchwood first!)
Im not sure, but i think its aimed at an older child audience.
Give it go when it comes out, or at least download the pilot when you've finished catching up on Torchwood ;)
Well, watched the pilot earlier today...and I have to say...I didn't enjoy it all that much :'(
There were good elements - some very good bits, but it was (on a whole) just so much more childish than I expected. It was a bit like Torchwood gone wrong...
Now, an inconsistency?
The Bane people or whoever they were, they first realised Sarah-Jane had had alien encounters before when they scanned her and noticed she had background radiation. I assume that this is the same background radiation that the Cybers, Daleks, Rose, Pete, Mickey and everyone from Pete's world, plus the Doctor, had on them (Doomsday). Why then was she not sucked into the void in Doomsday? We know that SJA takes place a bit after she's encountered the Doc in School Reunion, because she talks about meeting him.
...and just some general blathering...
I want a sonic lipstick. I know, I know, she had it back when she was with the Doctor, but I haven't seen those episodes so it was new for me :P ...sonic lipstick - it's just hilarious!
Who is Maria's dad, what else has he been in? I know I've seen him before.
I did like how the ending to the pilot sort of rounded off Sarah-Jane's lonely existence and she adopted Luke.
I just don't get what K-9 is doing, though.
I'll probably keep watching it, because it's a whole lot better than the crud our local channels are parading around as television shows. And because I want to look around her office a bit more. She's got so much stuff.

If Sarah Jane had been sucked through the Void, then so would all the other human companions that had travelled with the Doc. I suspect that the radiation thats still in her system (and all of the other companions) dissapates over time. All radiation has a half-life, so maybe the void only pulled in those people with stronger radiation in their system?
K-9 is trying to plug a singularity that was created by some humans in a lab. If left unchecked, it could've proved dangerous. This was a way for the writers to show K-9 in the pilot, but write him out for the rest of ther series.
Sounds like an Eye of Harmony...from what I've heard of it... :-/
Thanks for that - what K9 was circling looked very much like a black hole...and the fact that it was created by people...bah, I dunno. Must make myself not read anything into it.
It seems like a bit of an oxymoron, to have a "stable black hole" lol...
I know it sounds odd, but scientific theory predicts it.
Read The Science of Doctor Who. I think you'd enjoy it.
I wouldn't read too much into the whole black hole/K9 thing. It really was just a way of writing K9 out of the series
