2011 Photos of the World's of Isobelle Carmody

From the positive feedback we received from this last comp (not to mention some utterly gorgeous photos!) the task this month is to take pictures of places and objects that remind you of anything from Isobelle Carmody's works.

To view 2009's comp, please follow the prompts on 2009's comp page.

Your photos will fall into either one of the following categories:
  • Items
  • Landscapes
  • Buildings
  • Animals

Again, this art comp has a dual purpose: we are looking to generate a collection of images that members may be able to use in their other art projects, namely in Obernewtyn.net's 2012 Calendar competition! (link to come soon!)

The competition is open from now, until the 14th May, 2011.

Judges:
None required - this will be based on a poll posted in Artistsmerge at the closing submission date.

Submission Guidelines:
  • Images need to be of your own creation (i.e. taken by you) We don't want to see you submitting photos from stock photo sites. Also, keep in mind that the images you share will be viewable by anyone who visits our website (i.e. virtually anyone on the net) so be careful when posting photos of places around where you live. This is also why we do not have a 'people category'.
  • When submitting your designs to the gallery (for this competition), you will need to save and upload a 640 x 480 pixel .jpg (NO .BMPs!).
  • Larger versions of the files that will be made available to people entering the Calendar competition need to be uploaded to a Picasa Web Album, not Obernewtyn.net as our bandwidth can't handle it.
  • If you're interested in making all of your photos available for use in the Calendar Competition, click here to learn more about Picasa. When creating a Picasa album, it is recommended that you make your album "Unlisted", and then invite only the people who you want to be able to view your photos (more details to come in Artistsmerge - but we will have a list of email addresses to invite to view your album).
  • You must be OKAY with the possibility that members of Obernet will use and publish your image in the calendar. Credit will be given where images have been used

Submission Suggestions:
There is a limit of 5 photographs that you can enter for each category, however there is no limit on the number of photos you chose to upload to Picasa for use in the Calendar Competition.

Below is a list of things you might wish to take pictures of
  • Items - 'Beforetime Teknology', 'darklins/callstones', clothing, weapons, mirrors, symbols from The Gathering
  • Landscapes - The Highlands, Water bodies, The Moon, plant life (e.g. Little Fur)
  • Buildings - 'Obernewtyn', 'The Council Court', Harbour
  • Animals - Horses, Cats, Birds, 'Feinna', Monkeys, seagulls

Entry Pointage:
Each photo you enter will receive 1 guild point. Maximum of 5 photos, per category (so, maximum points = 5 entry points).

Winners pointage:
For each category, the winning places will receive:
1st: 15 guild points
2nd: 10 guild points
3rd: 5 guild points

Submit:

Once you're ready to submit your designs,
  • Go to the Photos of the Worlds of Isobelle Carmody 2011 Gallery.
  • Submit Media to the gallery. Ensure your USERNAME and the CATEGORY in the image title somewhere, and ensure that you DON'T use any keyboard characters in your title other than a-z (capitals ok), 0-9, or _ (otherwise your entry will upload, but will not display).

We have a thread open in Artistsmerge that you can ask any questions about this competition, or the Calendar competition photo guidelines: Photography Comp on Obernet.
