Ive always thought about it as a black hole thats got layers and stuff. But I also think that its too advanced for our minds to understand. Like, human minds, I mean.

Thats how I think of it when she deep probes like she's going through layers. When she sends her mind out like farseeking though thats just like out of body though right?
I don't know why but I just think when she reads people she gets impressions like the empaths would 'feel' emotions.
When she farseeks, I see a kind of net going over where she's farseeking.
I kind imagine the void in legend song and the lifestream in OC amost as the same thing
deep probing for me is like going down a whirlwind tunnel with images (memories) flashing around you and voices (thoughts) yelling at you.
Farseeking for me is like when you're flying past, but hardly anyone can feel you
thats a good way of putting it!
when she's farseeking i always see this long tube type thing liek when your in paint shop pro and you get the pic of a tube and make it go rouind real fast kinda liek a coloured tube yeah well thats what i see flying about and the same type thing whe nshe is deep probing but wit ht ql lthe images flashing up past and walls where she cant se behind and stuff and whe nshe comes across a natural mindsheild its lie ka brick wall and the probe in tube form goes up to it and bumps into and yeah cant get past, its crazy i actually imagine a brickwall ,oh so very silly
I dunno really...I tried to document once how it'd be portrayed in a movie with Lu, I'll try remember what we came up with...
- coercion -
it's as though 'time slows down' or something, the first time you see it (when Elspeth is deepprobing Rosamunde to alter her memory). Everything gets a blue-hue to it, except for Elspeth and Rosamunde, who stay normal colours (represents shutting out the world/focussing on one thing). Whatever she does is just voice-over.
- farseeking -
do you guys remember Xmen, where Wheels (haha) was searching for Rogue at the train station? It was like clouds and flickers of fast-paced people. Finally he focussed on Rogue's 'mental signature' and she became clearer. Then the whole scene became clearer. Like that.

I totally agree on that. Now that I've read the books a view more times, I'm starting to see (imagine) things in more detail. And not just in the farseeking/deepprobing scenes but in characters and places too (hence feeling confident enough to draw them, even though they are not exactly how I imgained them).
And of course these changes of perceptions are mainly influenced by these kinds of threads, in a positive way, that is.
thats a good picture for farseeking!
Wonder if any of the excellent artists on here could come up with pictures?
Man, how boring am I! Everyone else had blue liughts and sound effects and everything... I always thought with most things she could just hear a voice in her head that she knew wasn't hers... and with coercion she just... I don't know, I never really thought about it... like somehow she can see the other person's mind and go into it? I'm not good at visualising stuff like that!
I reckon 'in real life' farseeking would just be something like a voice in your head...but how to represent what's going on to an audience would be tricky, no?
I agree with you there, Min. I've alwaysed wondered how a director (if ever the series is made as a movie or TV series) would create such scenes like the farseeking. And no, netty, thats not boring, I think it is better that your mind isn't getting too distracted as how it would like. Sounds to me that you are geting right into the swing of the characte's percpective, which I'm sure was IC main intention.
You know i think i kinda agree with netty
for coercing ppl well i kinda figured it was just like walking you dont think about it you just do it. its more a subconscious thought.
as for being in ppls minds i always thought about it as she could see their thoughts as something like a film.
you know, i always pictured probes as like...a little stream or thread of colour, which would be the same colour as their auras. like, say elf wants to talk to matthew, she'd look at him and a really thin thread of white (maybe tinged red somewhere) would just flow out of her forehead or something and would touch matthew, and we'd hear them talking in a voiceover. and for, say, when she just sends her mind out over the landscape, you'd see a net - like what Lauren described - of colour streaming over the area. it's hard to explain in words. if you think...like in donnie darko (for people who have seen that), the way the tube things come out of their chests? that's not a good example, but it was just the movement of the workers which i thought was similar to the way i imagine probes. i can see it working for a movie, actually....
Hey...maybe it's like radio waves, colour - emitted like a frequency. So, when someone emitts an emotion, you see a 'shock wave' roll over a group in all directions (starting from a sphere or something) and fading out.
Farseeking and the more directed talents - it's like a shock-wave again, only directed - rather that starting from a sphere, it's in an arc, and it's pointed towards someone. However, anyone sensitive nearby could possibly pick it up, if they are attuned to the frequency...
does that make any sense? [img]http://s4.images.proboards.com/tongue.gif" alt=":P" border="0"/>
hmm wel wen i think about elspeth wen shes like farseeking or like when she reaches her mind out and kinda listens to everything or thinks of...man confusing, but like wen she reaches out with her mind, i imagine shes kinda like flying outward with herself like a spirit thing and she can see things just like wat she would with her eyes but its more kinda foggy and wat shes seeing is wat shes picking up from ppl and animals and such.
wen shes deepprobing herself like wen she goes dowwn to the mindstream, i kinda imagine not a tunnel but almost like a cliff or rockface except theres no edge to the cliff its just solid everywhere and wen she passes throught the first levels of her mind its like shes going into the earth, with each layer that she passes being a part or depth of her mind and wen she reaches the mindstream its almost as if shes entered a cavern and below her is a huge running river, beautiful but deadly and mist and spray come up from the river.
with coercsion and probes and stuff ive just imagined she kinda balled up a part of her mind and sent it out and wen shes coercing someone shes going into there kinda of like rockface cliff thing but from the side not from the top.
i dunno sounds a bit trippy to me but well it explains it for me
I never really focused on the image of farseeking or coercing.
I just imagined her concentrating really hard in her head, as these things she does with her clever mind do have to come back to her mind in order to process in her head. (whether it be farseeking, beastspeaking or coercing)
And things physically around her kind of fading because she is concentrating so hard.
I just thought that because she sometimes she forgets to pay attention to things around her because she's farseeking someone or something.
But it's definately something to imagine blue swirls and auras and nets!
How I imagine? ... Lessee...
I can't actually imagine deepprobing. I just see her sinking into darkness full of clouds/bubbles? But it's different according to her use of it. For coercion... geez.. this is impossible to describe. SKIP. I simply take it as it is. Flashy effects just remind me of bad sfx in movies... >.>;; less is more as they say :3
Farseeking to me is like this: reaching out with your awareness. Like you know how one is aware of one's immediate surroundings? Well stretch that out. It's not like a net/tube... it's more like gossamer. As each living thing has its own tune/wavelength at a particular frequency (it's not really frequencies and wavelengths but you get the idea), when a farseeker seeks with their mind, the individual life-forms produce a sorta "plucking of the strings" effect? Yeah... hmm. You know, unless you actually think the words at someone it's quite impossible to read minds... [img]http://s4.images.proboards.com/cheesy.gif" alt=":D" border="0"/>
Empathy! Something which I have personal experience with, believe you not or what ever. If one is not experienced, one simply would feel as if it's one's own feelings. But as time goes on, you realize that sometimes it's not yours and the outside feelings simply wash over you seperate from your own. However if the emotions are too strong, then can paralyze. Places/people/animals are all different to boot... [img]http://s4.images.proboards.com/cheesy.gif" alt=":D" border="0"/>
Confused yet? XD
Yeah, I always wondered about that. Thats a good point about the colours, Min. Thats sorta how I would see it too. Isn't it when emotion is ivoked, that it is expressed through facial expressions and other body language symbols that are universal, in which other people can relate to. So when Empathy happens, these could uncontrolable influence facial expression. For example with Dragon in "Farseekers". I don't know what I'm on about... But yeah I understand what your on about.
What I wonder about Empathy (not saying it's not a valid emotion [img]http://s4.images.proboards.com/grin.gif" alt=";D" border="0"/>) is HOW you would visually represent it to the world...not what you feel. If you had to take what you feel and use just once sense to describe it - sight - how would you represent it? Does it invoke colours (feelings apparently invoke colours?)? Or movement of some sort?
with far seeking i kinda get the feeling its like a voice in your head. you know how when you read you can hear the words in your head. something like that and instead of it being your mind voice its someone else's
I've always imagined that farseekers just receive voices in their head, like courts said, without there being any probe or waves or net or anything. With the Talents that require deepprobing (coercion, healing and futuretelling, I think), I do actually imagine a silvery probe, but its a mental probe only. You can't see it. Although with Elspeth sometimes its hard to tell what she's actually doing, because she has so many Talents so sometimes I see images in my head that don't match my normal images (if that makes sense). [img]http://s4.images.proboards.com/smiley.gif" alt=":)" border="0"/>
I also imagine that your ordinary senses stay active while you are using your mental powers. This is especially true of the non-deepprobing Talents and when you are mentally connected to someone you are used to working with mentally. For instance at the beginning of Farseekers, when the expedition is just leaving Obernewtyn, Elspeth says that she has an occasional farseeking conversation with Matthew. Since she is riding Galhtha at the time she must surely still be able to see. The way I see it, you have to concentrate on your mental powers more, and your ordinary senses become less active, if you are communicating with someone less well known, working over a long distance, or doing particularly tricky work (like a mindlink or a complex coercion etc).

Yeap yeap, I agree with the whole Farseeking issue - just hearing voices in your head, but knowing who they're from etc.
The trick is visually representing this to an audience.
I suppose it would come down to how Xmen represented Dr X's telepathic powers - a voice-over that was semi-echo-y.
