Dress code's in the works. It might be tweaked a bit before Friday, but currently looks like this:
Dress code is the same for both the High Tea and Masked Ball. Guests are advised to wear a mask, to prevent from being fined by the guards. Costumes are encouraged, relating to any of the many factions in the Obernewtyn Chronicles (misfits, gypsies, Sadorians, Landfolk, Red-landers, White-faced Lords, etc).
While the Landfolk/misfits, Sadorian, Gypsy and Norselander styles are known (from prior books), as a guide the cultures we are yet to see can be loosely interpreted as:
- White faced lords: oriental (from ninja to geisha). Plain, full white masks,
- Gadfians: robes, lots of chains/jewellery, skin mostly covered, women wearing bright face paint/makeup under their masks. Men and women have bare arms; men are bald if soldiers, or in plaits or oiled otherwise.
- Red-landers: tribal (/American Indian), more skin showing, tattooed (henna). Women being given as ‘gifts’ wear red.
- Both gifted and Gadfian women wear their hair in lots of braids/plaits – very formal.
Note: There is a Masked Ball in The Red Queen, where all of the cultures outfits are described in great detail, so if in doubt, wait until you have read The Red Queen before deciding upon your outfit!
So much for my ancient Roman headcanon (she said initially that'd work, but then thought about it a bit more and said it was more like, American Indian in style)!
