Hello all :) Despite frolicking around Ober.net for quite some time, this is the first time I've made it to Artistsmerge! I'm not entirely sure how things work in here, but I thought I'd create this thread to post some of my "very occasional artistic endeavours". If that's not how things work around here though, please feel free to expel this thread into mighty oblivion! :D
I draw, sew and make jewellery when I have the free time, and coming home from uni these holidays I've discovered that the shop where I get all my jewellery supplies has closed down! I'm rather devestated because I haven't been able to find anywhere that sells the same types of beads, or has quite as wide a variety, so once I use up the beads I currently have in my possession that will either be the end of my jewellery making or I'll have to considerably change my style in order to work with whatever I am able to get my hands on.
Anyway, I thought I'd take some photos of the few necklaces that I currently have finished, just to see what people think. I'm waiting for the photos to upload in photobucket at the moment, but will post links shortly :) Oh, and as I said before - mods is this isn't the way to go in Artistsmerge, please close this thread whenever you come across it :)

I can see why you'd be upset about the shop going out of business, these beads are fantastic! The little panda is adorable. I like the style you've chosen as well, it's different to the stock standard jewellery making and I really like it. I like how you've got different kinds of beading and things on each little section of the pendants too, definitely makes it more interesting.
EDIT: I think I just said 'I like' about 10 times in four sentences... :P

Ooooh I like these Kaede :) And this thread is awesome, Artistsmerge is a great place to show off your work.
I love the one with the chinese coins! Do you sell your work, or just make them?
I really LOVE the Haematite and freshwater pearl one! It is lovely! i love the look of stones and i don't think people appreciate how beautiful they actually are! I absolutely sympathize with you about the shop closing down!

Thanks EI :) My mum's an artist and she and a few of her friends have an exhibition every year over the summer holidays. I usually make a whole bunch of earrings and a few necklaces to sell in that. The necklaces I sell are usually the ones I'm not very attached to though :P Most of the time I make things for myself or as gifts for my friend's birthdays and such :)
Edit: Thanks Ruthella! I know, I loved the fact that this shop sold stone beads. I still have quite a selection because I went a little crazy once when they were having a sale, but I'm scared to use too many of them now! I was planning these holidays to try and make little wire ornamental trees with the stones as the leaves (I recently saw one in a shop and thought I'd give it a go myself), but now I'll only be able to do a limited amount :(

Wow Kaede, they are all so amazing. Have you looked online for the beads you need? There are qyite a few online sites that sell that sort of stuff.
You need to make some of those trees in silver though. I don't like gold and I want one!

Haha! Thanks Deb! I will be making some in silver as well, I just thought gold went better with the haematite.
I've thought of looking online for beads, and I think it's something I will eventually succumb to. I'm just a little worried about my internet spending due to a recent spree on the Book Depository ~:| But as I'd buy the beads if they were still available to me in town, I guess it's the same thing.
Oooh, the tree is very pretty! Love that you just knocked it up in your spare time, too :P
Wow love your work kaede! I actually think the tree looks better WITH the wire twisted! It gives more of a natural look! once again, love your work! :D

That must be my one then Kaede because I love it. If you want a purchacer for it please PM me with the details.
:O I LOVE the long chain necklaces!! I would buy both of the pink & silver and blue & silver ones in a heartbeat if I saw them at a shop!!
I really like your jewelry making style! I've actually seen the stone & wire trees in shops a lot lately, I bet you could easily sell those (or just keep a few hundred for yourself, which is what I would probably end up doing if I could make them)!!

My first reaction to the first pendant was I LOVE THAT CUTE ELEPHANT!
Then, these were my following reactions :P
WHOA I love the blue and silver and pink and silver necklaces Kaede!
I also really like the trees - especially the gold ones which are twisted. I can't remember which tree it was, but I think the gold tree with the pearls looks cool as - I also love the gold and black stone trees.
The gold with pearls reminds me of The White Tree of Gondor -- you could make a few of them together and make a "forest" and put them on a white paper and it would look SO good with their shadowy effect on white paper in a photo!! TOTALLY awesome jewellery and craft!
On a more constructive note :P I like the gold trees better than the silver because as you said the silver looks a bit dull, where as there is greater contrast with the gold
but i LOVE silver in the pendants!
God! i just clicked into this thread and i am glad i did so!
They are absolutely beautiful jeweleries Kaede!
You are certainly using your time away from uni...

Thank you so much everyone! :D It makes me so happy that you like them all :-} You've all made me really determined to find another source of beads so I can keep making things.
Mono, I really like the idea of making a forest! At the moment the three trees that I've made are sitting on a black coffee table, and I really like them all there! I kind of wish I could stick them out in the moss in our garden, but I know my dog would destroy them and damage her mouth in the process :P
Aww! you don't have to put it in your backyard - it can just be something ornamental to decorate a small corner of your house to prettify it :D Or it could possibly be used as a key hanger?

Everything looks amazing Kaede!!! I simply love the trees, and I love the way you've made the bases- especially the silver one. The silver tree looked better on the black surface than it did in your earlier pictures :)
Ooh! The bases make it even more White Tree of Gondor-ish, especially the Silver one. I agree with Arwen ^.

[act]is jealous[/act] I love your jewelery Kaede :D
I have made a few attempts to make my own earrings, necklaces and bracelets, but failed miserably each time. Your pieces look wonderful, and it's a shame your usual supplier closed down, because they had some really funky beads!
