Ok, Dani & RubyInnle met up with IC this week when she was visiting their school. A number of questions were answered, but the one that interests me the most is that Jes might not be dead now!
I remember in my letter to her I asked that if Jes was still alive, could he be the destroyer (with killing power etc)? She mentioned in the letter that Jes being alive and the Destroyer was a great parallel storyline to follow, but it wasn't the one she chose - with an emphasis on the Jes is dead part LOL.
In the interview, she's revealed that Jes might still be alive!
So that gets me thinking...could Jes be the Destroyer?!
Any reasons anyone can think of for Jes still being alive other than Destroyer?
Ok, so remember they guy in the Druid camp who had talent but was crumbling under the pressure of being what he abhorred? Maybe Jes has become somewhat defective and is actually Salamander? I don't really know why he would have become a slaver, but hey that's what the 5th book would explain.
That said, IF he's alive I'm thinking he'd be the destroyer because he's already equal to Elf in powers. Does it make it too neat for him to be the destroyer or have we been thinking about it for way too long! [img]http://s3.images.proboards.com/grin.gif" alt=";D" border="0"/>
Nooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If Jes isn't dead, I'll be REALLY disapointed!!! It just seems so STUPID. It's such a cop-out and so, I dunno... predictable I guess.
PLEASE be dead, Jes. PLEASE!!!

I love this!! Now i can write that fanfic ive been thinking about [img]http://s3.images.proboards.com/cheesy.gif" alt=":D" border="0"/> Ive thought of about 20 different scenarios where Jes comes back into the story [img]http://s3.images.proboards.com/smiley.gif" alt=":)" border="0"/>
I think that there was a coercer with the soldier guards who came to take him from the orphanage, and after he killed the guards, the coercer made it look like Jes was killed, and then spirited him away to the Herder Cloisters, where they brainwashed him and tortured him, so that they could use his powers to their advantages. He then went on to rise in the ranks of the Herders, until he was given the position of Salamander.
Ok, i have a wild imagination, so sue me [img]http://s3.images.proboards.com/tongue.gif" alt=":P" border="0"/>
No that's actually pretty good...R U sure you're not an alias of IC? [img]http://s3.images.proboards.com/tongue.gif" alt=":P" border="0"/>

Maybe i am... *shifty eyes*
[img]http://s3.images.proboards.com/cheesy.gif" alt=":D" border="0"/> i love your scenario frankie!
but i have to agree with kayt, i DONT WONT JES to be alive... it does seem like a cop out- and its already been used in so many other movies/books.
but it all depends on what character jes would play, i guess.
Jes coming back would make the story... twisted. There'd prob be some kind of reunion between the two siblings- i think it would be the more cold approach than running into each others arms... [img]http://s3.images.proboards.com/undecided.gif" alt=":-/" border="0"/>
with Jes coming back, Elf and her emotions would be really twisted up too- flashbacks of the past perhaps?
the coercer theory is good, except rosamunde saw the arrow fired, though it may have missed organs but somehow caused him to fall (either that or he tripped when the arrow hit him) though she didnt run out and check if he was breathing or anything, so its quite possible he was just stunned and he got taken to the cloisters. or it couldve been a diversion and the real attack was a coercive bolt
Well the whole dodginess of Rosamunde's scenario was like this - she'd been tampered with quite easily by Elspeth to tell the Headkeepers that she was a Dreamer and fell into tainted water. Which meant she was susceptible to coercive action. Jes could have coerced her to believe she had seen his death. Or that BOY Rosamunde talks about could have - the one that came to the orphanhome and taught Jes to use his powers. I totally believe this was Ariel, explaining why he wasn't present at Obernewtyn during that time.
The scenario then could be that Ariel, as H'rayka, has been leading Jes, the Destroyer, on a totally seperate journey somehow and somewhere...
NO! ARGH, this is silly. It's not Jes. His coming back might simply be during the novel's conclusion, to round off the happy ending.
I can'y believe it [img]http://s3.images.proboards.com/shocked.gif" alt=":o" border="0"/>
I can't belive it [img]http://s3.images.proboards.com/shocked.gif" alt=":o" border="0"/>
Its like having the floor give way under you feet and falling into an unknown chasm of darkness.
Wow Jes might be alive, I have to get thinking!

If Jes is back I think it can only be for a B-A-D reason. I don't reckon the ending is going to be really happy...more bitter sweet.

Yeah, i dont think Elspeth and Jes will be particularly happy to see each other either [img]http://s3.images.proboards.com/tongue.gif" alt=":P" border="0"/>
Especially when Brydda and Daffyd catch Salamander and it turns out to be Jes
muahahaha!!
Im kinda committed to that idea [img]http://s3.images.proboards.com/tongue.gif" alt=":P" border="0"/>
How could Jes be Salamander? And why would he have to hide himself from the public? It makes more sense for the Druid to be Salamander, since he's fanatical about remaining hidden and unseen.
I kinda hope he doesn't come back...that this has all been a bit of a ruse, or an idea that she hasn't fully worked on yet - I can't see how Jes will come back...without it looking cheesy anyway. But I guess that's why I'm not writing these things [img]http://s3.images.proboards.com/tongue.gif" alt=":P" border="0"/>
C'mon IC, surprise us!
i think jes could be salamander, i have this feeling its a character we know, and all those years trying to suppress who he was would have to twist someone at least a bit. he might just hide himself because hes paranoid
i have also felt that the boy who taught jes to use his powers could be ariel. though wouldnt rosamunde have recognised him?

The person who is Salamander obviously welds a huge amount of influence and power in the land and has many connections I dont think that someone who grew up in an orphan home would have had that opportunity. Salamanders bound to be the last person we expect, to run an operation that size they must be high placed, for some reason Malik just jumped in my head but a few other people have as well.
If Jess is to come back which to me would be an average predictable done to death twist, then he would have to be the destroyer anything less to me would be a crock.

Min I thought that Ariel arrived at OB at a young age thats why he was so established.

I was wondering, when did I mention this [img]http://s3.images.proboards.com/huh.gif" alt="???" border="0"/>
Because, I didn't ask IC this question.

So how could Jes be alive? Come off it, i think IC is throwing us a red herring.... maybe we can cut down a tree with it [img]http://s3.images.proboards.com/tongue.gif" alt=":P" border="0"/>
Full agreement there any author loves a good twist to suprise there audience, and trying to make people believe something then doing the opposite is a extremely easy way to achieve this.
Hey, before we get too sidetracked on a gay damien argument...
Yeah, Min, when did IC mention that Jes could still be alive? Coz it's not in Dani's interview! Just curious...

It was in the CO interview, I thought Dani was there for it?? [img]http://s3.images.proboards.com/huh.gif" alt="???" border="0"/>
Anyway, now this thread's been cleaned up a bit, back on topic. I've brought back the Jes is the Destroyer thread that Tegan started a while back because it has some substance to it now.
I still want Isobelle to change her mind and keep him dead though [img]http://s3.images.proboards.com/sad.gif" alt=":(" border="0"/> it was better off that way.
Its like walking into a room where some horrible thing has taken place but all the physical evidence has been washed away.
i.e its still creepy.
I don't mind if it Jes is alive.
I trust i.C to make it wonderful whether he's dead or not so i'm not worried about that.
However I am very interested in what part/role he will play.
Raineth
I really think Jes is dead, as IC didn't mention anything about him being alive when I saw her, and I didn't ask anything.
Why was it mentioned in the CO interview [img]http://s3.images.proboards.com/huh.gif" alt="???" border="0"/>
I hope it was wrong too...I don't want him to be alive!
apparently whoever did the co interview was also talking to her after the talk and asked some questions then
