Greetings! By now you should have already read the
Moonfair 2012: Explained thread which is why you've wandered over here to see how to submit your great idea for a competition!
(If not, head over to that thread first, as it explains a lot that we don't want to have to repeat here!)
Creating Comps:Got an idea for a competition?
First step is to find a collaborator - another member of Obernet, who will help you refine your ideas.
This is a great way for new members to get to know people outside of their Guild on Obernet.
If you are looking for a collaborator, please post in the
Partners In Crime thread, so any interested members can respond to you.
During the collaboration phase, assign your competition idea to one of the following categories:
- Artwork: where the entrant has to submit any kind of visual work
- Writing: where the entrant has to submit any piece of writing (this includes answers to quizzes)
- Puzzle: where the entrant has to complete a sequence of clues to find an answer, or an on-screen puzzle, crossword, find-a-word, etc.
Note that there is no misc category this year, if you are unsure which category your competition would fit in from the above, please check with the Moonfairies.
We encourage members to come up with small competitions that don't take so long to enter. If you have any doubts or queries over this, please ask below. As a general guide:
- Quizzes are restricted to 15 questions.
- Writing competitions are restricted to 1000 words.
- If you need people to find hidden items around the site/forums, you're restricted to hiding a maximum of 10 items.
Once you have refined your ideas over PM, you need to submit the following information by PMing it to the
Moonfairy:
- Collaborators: (usernames)
- Category: (one of the above)
- Comp Name:
- Description of competition: (Note that this will be exactly what appears on your competition page so please ensure you include complete competition guidelines. If you are unsure of what the information should be included why not look at some past site writing & art competition pages)
- Judging Criteria: (Please provide a brief explanation of key criteria that people should take into account when preparing their entries. This may also serve as a guide to competition judges).
- Do you require an artist/MLW to create your competition page for you?: Y/N
- Do you have a title/banner to include at the top of your page?: Y/N (if so, please provide the url. The banner size is restricted to a width of 900px and we advise a banner to be no higher than 150 px. If you want to help out with fitting into the theme, ensure it has a white background, too)
Once you have submitted your idea you will be contacted by the Moonfairy for how to proceed.
If you have nominated "No" to an MLW, a website template will be returned to you. If you've nominated "Yes" to an MLW, you will receive a PM detailing who your MLW is so you can contact them.
Guild Competitions:
Please also submit these to the Moonfairy via PM; including which category it best fits into. For collaborators, you can list the 1 or 2 people who are in charge of making sure the guild as a whole completes the competition, so we (the Moonfairies) have a point of contact.
Things NOT to include in your initial PM:- Pointage: These are assigned by the Moonfairies.
- Judges: These will be arranged at a later date. If you are interested in judging a competition, keep visiting the Moonfair board for further details!
IMPORTANT!If you want to create a competition, the responsibility is on
you to complete it by the
15 August 2012. We will not be chasing incomplete or late competitions; either get your comp up and working by the set date or it doesn't get used!---------------
If you have any questions or if something wasn't covered in enough detail in the above, please post your questions here.
Final checklist: Has My Competition Been Approved? If the answer to all three of those questions is "yes", then YES your competition has been approved ;D
